A Zinnia Garden

Every year I plant a lot of zinnias. The flowers come in a variety of bold colors, and zinnias last until the first frost. Their pollen and nectar attract butterflies, moths, and beetles. The seeds are sold fairly cheaply online. What's not to love?!

Zinnia's are native to Mexico. They like hot, sunny locations, and even do well in dry weather.

When planted in masses they are all the more eye-popping, with their ruffled ribbon-like petals packing a colorful display.

I always end up with a LOT of flowers. When they are in full bloom I enjoy them for a time in the garden, and then occasionally I might cut a few to enjoy indoors in fresh arrangements. Zinnias are beautiful when dried, too. Sometimes if I have the time I sell them fresh to local florists.

And there's always enough to let most of them go to seed for the next summer's zinnia garden.

No matter the background or room, zinnias make a show.
